Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt is joined by Antti Timonen, spokesperson for the EPP Group, to discuss measures taken by the European Union to counter terrorism threats.

According to Timonen, closer cooperation between national authorities, greater intelligence sharing between the EU and third countries, establishing stricter external border control and EU-wide Air Passenger Name Record rules should be the key elements of Europe’s strategy to fight terrorism. However, there also needs to be done a lot at the national level to improve the integration of ethnically and religiously diverse communities, stresses the EPP Group spokesperson.

This week the European Parliament will hold several debates on European anti-terrorism measures. On Tuesday 27 January, Commissioner Avramopoulos i, together with EU Anti-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove i and representatives of the Raising Awareness Network, will participate in a discussion with the Parliament’s LIBE Committee on radicalisation and foreign fighters. This debate will be continued with the whole Parliament during Wednesday’s plenary session.
