Jennifer Baker is joined by James Holtum, spokesperson for the ECR Group, to discuss the EU Passenger Name Record (PNR) Directive that is back on the table.

The PNR Directive is a part of a wider agenda to protect European citizens better against security threats, in particular terrorism and serious crime. Some Member States already use the PNR system, but rules across the EU are not harmonised. For the moment, the Directive has been held up in the European Parliament because of data protection concerns. Holtum underlines that it is crucial to find a consensus in the Parliament’s LIBE Committee and move forward with the PNR Directive.

“The PNR agreement needs to be proportional to the current security risks and ensure that all the safeguards are in place to protect data” argues the ECR Group tweet
