Shift to Triton operation has been agreed

As established and agreed with the European partners, the Government has decided to shift from Mare Nostrum operation to the European Agency Frontex operation called Triton.

Therefore, a phasing-out period is about to start. During such time it will be possible to communicate more widely and correctly the change in the positioning of vessels at sea.

The details on Triton operation and the phasing out of Mare Nostrum were explained by the Italian Minister of Interior, Angelino Alfano, and the Italian Minister of Defence, Roberta Pinotti, during a press conference at Palazzo Chigi press room.
