Hearings of candidate commissioners officially closed; vote on new Commission tomorrow
After reviewing the last two hearings of commissioners-designate held the day before in Strasbourg, the Conference of Presidents, the group leaders, unanimously declared the hearings process closed.
The group leaders thus confirmed that the following morning the full house could debate and vote on the new European Commission as a body. In order to get the green light, the Commission will need to be approved by a majority of votes cast in an electronic roll-call vote. If approved, President-elect Juncker's team can start work on 1 November. Juncker was separately elected by the European Parliament on 15 July.
The evaluation letters drafted by the committees which held the different hearings will be published within 24 hours of the closing of the hearings procedure.
