Schulz to pay working visit to Lampedusa

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i will pay a working visit to Lampedusa this Thursday and Friday 2 and 3 October, to mark the anniversary of the tragedy of 3 October 2013, when 366 migrants died off the coasts of the Sicilian island.

In Lampedusa, President Schulz will meet with the families of the victims of the 3 October tragedy, he will take part in a commemoration ceremony and a conference on the migratory crisis in the Mediterranean.

The visit is organised by the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean chaired by the Portuguese Parliament, with the support of the Italian Parliament.

During the visit, President Schulz will meet with the President of the House of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal Maria da Assunção Andrade Esteves, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Federica Mogherini, the Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano, the President of the Sicily Region Rosario Crocetta i and the Mayor of Lampedusa, Giusy Nicolini.
