Revitalisation Projects in Pomorskie Region, Poland

All across Europe regions are taking proactive action in governing their districts. Revitalisation Projects in the Pomorskie Region, Poland, are key examples of how local and regional authorities are ensuring EU law is being managed on a regional level - a model of multilevel governance in action.

The managing authority (MA) of the regional ERDF programme for the Pomorskie Region developed a cooperation approach for revitalisation projects focusing on urban areas, fighting poverty and social exclusion. The process started with a public consultation on the community needs and an in-depth consultation with the city authorities, social and economic partners. The working methods of the managing authority and its approach provide examples for multi-thematic preparation and implementation of complex projects (balancing infrastructural and social issues); effective negotiation procedures at different levels (e.g. actors representing selected urban areas, managing authority, city authorities) and for balancing the bottom-up and top-down approach to social dialogue.
