Schulz on the passing of Jean-Luc Dehaene

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i made the following statement on the passing of Jean-Luc Dehaene i.

"Jean-Luc Dehaene was an outstanding Belgian and European politician. Among many other achievements he led his country into the euro. Jean-Luc Dehaene was a committed European playing an outstanding role as Vice-President on the Convention that drew up the Constitutional Treaty.

Recently, Jean-Luc and I worked hard together on the Multiannual Financial Framework fighting for a more ambitious EU budget and I recall his dedication and deep understanding of the issues.

I pay tribute to his work and commitment to Belgium and the European Union. He will be sorely missed here in the European Parliament and our thoughts are with his family and friends."
