EU Common Security and Defence Policy operations to be discussed in Athens

The Informal Defence Ministers Meeting of EU member-states will take place at Zappeion Megaron in Athens, on 20-21 February 2014.

Apart from the Ministers of Defence of the 28 member-states, delegates from the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Commission, the European Defence Agency (EDA), the European Military Staff (EUMS) and the European Military Committee (EUMC) will also attend the meeting.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen i, and United Nations Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous, will also participate at the informal meeting.

A discussion is expected to take place on the European Council Conclusions of December 2013, focusing on outlining a plan for their implementation.

Special reference will also be made to EU Common Security and Defence Policy operations (ATALANTA in the Horn of Africa, EUFOR ALTHEA in Bosnia-Herzegovina, ΕU Training Mission in Mali and ΕU Training Mission in Somalia).

Finally, EU plans for a military operation in the Central African Republic will be the subject of a separate session at the meeting.
