The European Commission is to appoint a new head of its ad hoc ethics committee after three NGOs complained about Michel Petite's alleged conflicts of interest. Petite, formerly head of the commission's legal services, now works as a tobacco lobbyist for a law firm. The EU ombudsman welcomed the decision.
