“Moldova has made the largest progress among the Eastern Partnership countries,” said Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius in his meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. Tomorrow will see the initialling of the European Union-Moldova Association Agreement, which is expected to be signed next year.
“We fully support Moldova's aspirations to integrate in the European Union. This is Moldova’s path to progress and success, and it is the current government that leads the way,“ said the Lithuanian Prime Minister.
The counterparts also discussed EU-Moldova trade relations, energy projects, Lithuania-Moldova bilateral economic cooperation and the development of such cooperation in the area of transport.
The Prime Minister offered to Moldova to make use of the ice-free port of Klaipėda with a view to secure shipment to European countries, and also welcomed Moldova’s recent accession to the project of the container train Viking.
The Moldovan Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for Lithuania’s active assistance to Moldova as it pursued Eastern Partnership, and said that the people in the Baltic countries are the best example of what can be achieved with the European integration.
Among other items discussed were EU-Moldova trade relations and energy projects. The Moldovan Prime Minister invited Lithuanian Prime Minister A. Butkevičius to visit Moldova. Noting the success of our country's presidency of the European Council, Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca thanked the Government of Lithuania for a smooth and efficient arrangement of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.
