Raad en Europees Parlement komen budget voor cohesiebeleid in periode 2014-2020 overeen (en)

Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the EU i ambassador Raimundas Karoblis has signed a letter to the Chair of the Committee on Regional Development of the European  iParliament Danuta Hübner i presenting the consolidated text of the Cohesion Package for 2014-2020.

“Successful conclusion of the Cohesion Package negotiations is one of the biggest achievements of the Lithuanian Presidency i. The agreement will open the way to start implementation of more than 300 bn euros earmarked for the Cohesion policy in the 2014-2020 period,” said ambassador Karoblis.

The letter from the Chair of the Permanent Representatives Committee confirms that the Council of the EU and the European Parliament have reached the political agreement on the Cohesion policy regulations for 2014-2020, opening way for the vote in the European Parliament planned for November 20, and the implementation of the new Cohesion policy period from January 1, 2014.

Resources for Cohesion Policy is one of the most important parts of the EU multiannual budget. The aim of this policy is to stimulate the social and economic development of the EU Member States and regions by concentrating resources to the less developed ones thus contributing to decreasing the differences in development across the EU.
