Josip Cule benoemd als lid Eurojust namens Kroatië (en)

Eurojust is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Josip Čule as the first National Member for the Republic of Croatia at Eurojust. In accordance with Article 2(1) of the Eurojust Decision, the appointment was approved by the Secretary General of the Council of the European Union. Mr Čule officially took up his duties at Eurojust on 30 September.
Mr Čule was previously the Liaison Prosecutor for the Republic of Croatia at Eurojust, having been appointed in 2009 following the signing of the Agreement between Eurojust and the Republic of Croatia in November 2007.
Mr Čule has more than 29 years’ experience of working within Croatia’s justice system. He concluded his law studies in Split in 1981. He became Court Advisor at the County Court of Split in 1986. In 1991, he became a judge at the Criminal Department at the County Court in Split and Deputy President of the same court. At the County Court, he worked as an investigative judge, trial judge, appeals judge and judge in juvenile cases, and was associated with the Law Faculty in Split.
In 2005, he was appointed Deputy Attorney General and at the same time contact point for Eurojust in Croatia. From 2006 to 2010 and 2011 to 2015, Mr Čule was President of the State Attorney Council, a specialised body responsible for disciplinary measures and the appointment of prosecutors. In 2008, he was appointed Head of the International Legal Assistance and Cooperation Unit in Croatia.
Mr Čule said the following on his appointment as National Member: “I am proud that my efforts as Liaison Prosecutor for Croatia at Eurojust have been recognised with my appointment as the first National Member for Croatia at Eurojust. I look forward to continuing my work in the vital area of judicial cooperation and to strengthening the existing links between Croatia and Eurojust.”
