At the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York on 15 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, who is paying a visit to the U.S., presented priorities for the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council to representatives of the foreign diplomatic community from the EU Member States and Eastern Partnership countries, EU diplomats and representatives of the U.S. Department of State. Later, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister delivered a lecture on this topic at the City University of New York.

“The Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council promotes proactivity of the EU candidate countries. We must respect the decision of candidate countries that have chosen a path of European integration and help them. We cannot undermine European values, because they unite us,” L.Linkevičius said.

Students of the City University of New York took interest in issues related to the EU’s foreign policy, Russia’s role in the context of the EU enlargement process, refugees in the EU, and the EU-NATO relations.

The meetings were also attended by the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Nerijus Germanas, the Lithuanian Consul General in New York Valdemaras Sarapinas, and Rita Kazragienė, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
