The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i made the following statement on the passing of Wilfried Martens:
“On behalf of the European Parliament, I pay tribute to Wilfried Martens - a great statesman of Belgium, Europe and an outstanding leader in the European Parliament.
Among his remarkable achievements, Wilfried Martens played a tremendous role in reuniting the European continent.
Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.”
