De heer Nikolaos Ornerakis aangesteld als nieuw lid bij Eurojust (en)

Eurojust is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Nikolaos Ornerakis as the new National Member for Greece at Eurojust. Mr Ornerakis officially took up his duties at Eurojust on 10 September.Mr Ornerakis has more than 22 years of experience as a judge and prosecutor. Prior to joining Eurojust, he was a Public Prosecutor with the Court of First Instance in Athens, where he primarily dealt with cases of organised crime and cybercrime.

Mr Ornerakis began his career with the Athens Bar Association after obtaining a law degree from the University of Athens. Between 1995 and 2000, he was a judge in the Air Force Court in Athens, and then became Deputy Public Prosecutor in Corfu, Livadia and Corinth. Since 2010, Mr Ornerakis has been the Representative of Greece in the Committee of Criminal Matters of the Council of Europe (CDPC); the Representative of the Hellenic Republic in SEEPAG (South East European Prosecutors Advisory Group); the Greek delegate to the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC); and, since 2013, Chairman of SEEPAG.

Mr Ornerakis said the following on his appointment as National Member: “My appointment as the National Member for Greece at Eurojust is a very important moment in my life and my career. The opportunity to work and cooperate with prosecutors at the highest level from across Europe is a unique honour. My previous experience as a prosecutor dealing with organised crime in Greece and my participation in various international organisations will undoubtedly help me to succeed in my assignment, as will the invaluable assistance of my colleagues and the staff of Eurojust.”
