On 29-30 September, Bistrampolis Manor near Panevėžys will host the European Alliance Group at the Committee of Regions’ external seminar on the topic "The EU rural development policy for the sustainable development of rural areas".

At the meeting, the Lithuanian policy regarding sustainable development of rural areas will be presented, the common agricultural policy impact on rural areas will be discussed and the position of the Committee of Regions concerning rural sustainability issues will be provided.

This is a traditional event organized twice a year. During the event, political party group members will discuss their agenda and the inviting party will have the ability to better present their regional or nation-wide issues thus mobilizing additional support for their positions.

The Committee of Regions is an advisory body that represents EU local and regional authorities. The Committee of Regions comprises five political groups corresponding to the main European political subjects, namely the European People's Party (EPP), the Party of European Socialists (PES), the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Group (ALDE), the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) and the Union for Europe of the Nations - European Alliance (UEN-EA) group.
