Vilnius, September 6. The Budget Committee of the Council of the EU discussed the lessons learned during the 2007-2013 financial period in the light of a new programming period and other issues in Vilnius yesterday.
"The Lithuanian Presidency i endeavours to timely adopt the 2014 EU budget which will be the start of the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework. It is important not only to learn the lessons of the outgoing period and to ensure the smooth transition, but also to address the priorities of the budget appropriately in order to ensure sustainable economic growth and enhancement of employment in Europe“, stated Finance Vice-Minister Algimantas Rimkūnas, representative of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council.
The representatives of the EU Member States and European Commission discussed the progress on Galileo and Copernicus projects aimed at a fully operational service, evolution of the EU decentralized agencies and related constraints, lessons of the 2007-2013 financial period in terms of the evolution of payments versus commitments of the EU budget and other issues.
Today the participants of the event will take tour to Druskininkai, the town which successfully used EU structural assistance for the renewal of its infrastructure, development of the town and tourism promotion.
The informal meeting the Budget Committee of the Council of the European Union is organised by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania.
