Statement by the Spokesperson of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton i on the progress in election preparations in Kosovo

"High Representative Catherine Ashton welcomes the progress made this week in Pristina and in Belgrade concerning the preparations for the 3 November elections, in particular the decisions of the Central Electoral Commission and the registration throughout Kosovo of many parties and entities, with the facilitation of the OSCE where foreseen by the April Agreement. These are good steps forwardfor ensuring fair elections with participation from all the communities in Kosovo.

The municipal elections of 3 November represent a milestone for the future of Kosovo andfor the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina. The High Representative appeals to all parties to continue to work hard on preparing the electoral process and to continue to show maturity and good will in addressing the many issues that undoubtedly will still arise between now and the elections."
