Lithuanian Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius (representing Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU) participated in the G20 meeting of labour and finance ministers in Moscow today. The ministers discussed strategies to promote strong and sustainable economic growth while contributing to job creation.

"Although unemployment is a global issue, there is no single solution suitable to all countries. Especially worrying is youth unemployment, which can lead to serious social consequences in the future. This problem has also attracted the attention of the European Council. To solve these issues much attention must be paid to the cooperation and common points as well as to the implementation of effective structural reforms. It is also very important to use the economic growth to reduce unemployment, but at the same time it is necessary to follow the responsible fiscal policy,"- Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius said.

The Ministers discussed the global issues of unemployment, especially of youth unemployment, possibilities for states to encourage investment in the creation of jobs, to improve business environment (in particular for small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups), to implement cost-effective social policies and labour market reforms. This was the first joint meeting of finance and labour ministers in the history of G20.
