Iceland's fisheries minister Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson branded European Commission threats to impose sanctions over the mackerel dispute between Iceland, the EU, Norway and the Faroe Islands as "counterproductive and excessive." He said Monday that: "Attempts to intimidate Iceland by proposing illegal sanctions will not settle this important and sensitive matter."
