Agenda Litouws voorzitterschap besproken op bijeenkomst DG's Buitenlandse Zaken (en)
The EU Directors General of the Foreign Ministries of the EU Member States and candidate countries have met in Vilnius on 11-12 July. The meeting has focused on priorities of Lithuanian EU presidency agenda and inter-institutional cooperation. Lithuanian MFA EU Director Tomas Gulbinas has chaired the meeting.
Vytautas Leskevicius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania has noted the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in order to advance the EU agenda effectively.
“Lisbon Treaty strengthened EU democratic foundations by enhancing the role of European Parliament in political and legislative processes. We need to continue discussions on cooperation between European Parliament, EU Council and other EU institutions, and Member States in order to make legislative process as smooth as possible, while at the same time ensuring the best representation of the interests of EU citizens,” said the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Director of European Affairs Department of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs Gulbinas has presented the EU Council Presidency programme.
“Colleagues from EU capitals have expressed support to the Presidency programme and wished good luck and promised support while implementing the programme, because the programme sets out to achieve is important to Union as a whole,” Lithuanian diplomat has remarked.
EU Directors General meeting is a traditional event organized by the Member State, holding the EU presidency. During this traditional meeting participants discuss EU agenda for the forthcoming 6 months, other important EU issues.
Representatives of the President of the European Council, the European Commission and the Council General Secretariat, as well as EU Directors General from candidate countries take part in the meetings.
EU presidency organizes EU Directors General meeting once during its 6 months presidency.
