Litouwse premier feliciteert Letland met toetreding tot eurozone (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Litouws voorzitterschap Europese Unie 2e helft 2013 i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 9 juli 2013.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius i welcomes the decision by the EU’s finance ministers, who have gathered to the Economic and Financial Affairs (ECOFIN) Council in Brussels, to invite Latvia to adopt the euro as of 2014.

“Although at present the idea of joining the eurozone is often considered with caution, and there are even those who doubt euro’s strength in a number of countries, I remain a strong supporter of the common European currency. I am confident that this decision will have a positive impact on Latvia’s financial sustainability and will stimulate its economic growth.

Hence I sincerely congratulate Latvia on its successful path towards greater integration in the EU, and I wish welfare, solidarity, and every success in all endeavours to the people of your country. And we, in our turn, by patient endeavours, and leaning upon the experience of the two Baltic states, will surely join your honourable company soon”, reads Prime Minister’s congratulatory letter.
