PSC en de Nicolaidis Groep brengen eerste bezoek aan Vilnius (en)
On 3-5 July, representatives of the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the Council of the European Union (EU) and the Nicolaidis Group will make an informal visit to Vilnius.
Representatives of the Political and Security Committee (PSC) and the Nicolaidis Group will visit the Gaižiūnai Military Ground in Rukla, where the equipment and machinery of the Lithuanian Army will be demonstrated. Guests will also have the opportunity to observe military exercises on the training field, get acquainted with the Baltic Air Surveillance Network and Control System (BALTNET), and visit the Joint Control and Reporting Centre (RCR) in Karmėlava.
The cultural programme will include a tour of the Old Town of Vilnius, Trakai, Kaunas, and Pažaislis. Guests will also visit the Lithuanian open-air folk life museum at Rumšiškės, and see the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius. The visit is co-organised with the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
The Political and Security Committee assembles ambassadorial level representatives from each EU member state, as well as high-ranking officials from European institutions (mainly the European External Action Service (EEAS i)). The Political and Security Committee (PSC) is a permanent structure of the Council of the European Union (EU), which monitors the international situation in areas covered by the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The PSC contributes to the drafting and implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The PSC is the Council body that deals with crisis situations, and examines all options that may be considered as part of the EU’s response. It is therefore for the PSC to propose to the Council the political objectives to be pursued, and to recommend a cohesive set of options for crisis resolution. The Nicolaidis Group prepares the meetings of the Political and Security Committee (PSC).
