Justius Lipsius gedecoreerd in stijl van Litouws voorzitterschap (en)
On Tuesday, the decoration works of the Council of the European Union's headquarters, Justus Lipsius, began. For the next half-year, with Lithuania presiding, it will embrace the installation "The Gardens of Europe". The decoration of the Justus Lipsius building is one the most important creative projects among the EU institutions, implemented by every presiding member country.
The Lithuanian decor project will be introduced officially on Wednesday; the Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis will participate in the event.
The installation "The Gardens of Europe", which will decorate the building's atrium, was made from light aluminium tubes and represents the motives of the Lithuanian straw gardens. The straw gardens symbolize the World Tree and the Order of the Cosmos. The garden leitmotif will be also present in the original furniture and chandeliers placed around the Justus Lipsius.
The decor project will connect elements of traditional culture, Lithuanian modern art (graphics by Rimtautas Vincentas Gibavičius, sculpture by Teodoras Kazimieras Valaitis, paintings by Kazimieras Žoromskis), and the latest achievements in Lithuanian design (works by Paulius Vitkauskas and Nauris Kalinauskas). The project is implemented by "Ekspobalta".
"The Gardens of Europe" will be hanging till 31 December.
Photos and videos of the decoration works and the introductory event will be available at eu2013.lt and the EU Council's website.
