Vilnius, 4 juli 2013: conferentie over energiezekerheid in Baltische Zeeregio (en)
On 4 July, the European Commission’s in house science service, the Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania will co-host the conference “Scientific support to energy security in the Baltic Sea Region”.
The conference will be attended by Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius, Minister of Education and Science Dainius Pavalkis, Director-General of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) Dominique Ristori, Vice-Minister of Energy Aleksandras Spruogis, as well as speakers from the European Parliament and the Commission, the World Bank, Latvia, Poland, Germany, representatives of electricity networks Medgrid, Litgrid, Enel, AST, etc.
The event will focus on the role of science as a contributor to address the challenges of energy security in the region. The conference will bring together stakeholders from government, science and industry, in an important step towards better cooperation in this area. The event also aims at providing scientific support to the implementation of strategic projects being carried out under the framework of the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan, launched by the Commission in 2009.
Energy security is one of the priorities of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU during the second half of 2013, which also include the completion of the internal energy market and the strengthening of the external EU policy.
The Joint Research Centre is the scientific and technical arm of the European Commission.
