Lithuania prepares to take over the presidency of the EU Council from Ireland on 1 July. European affairs journalist Peter O’Donnell is joined by the country’s EU ambassador Raimundas Karoblis for a look ahead.

The country will focus its six months presidency on the EU’s economic credibility, on jobs and growth and on closer integration of the European Union and its Eastern partners.

But as talks on the multiannual financial framework (MFF) continue at today’s and tomorrow’s EU Summit, Karoblis stresses once more that an MFF deal has to be found before Ireland hands over its presidency role.

“We need to get an agreement [on the MFF], we don’t have a plan B.”
