On 24-25 June in Luxembourg the EU agriculture ministries will gather for the crucial discussions approaching the political agreement on the open questions of the Common agricultural policy reform regulations. It will be the final EU Council under the Ireland’s Presidency, therefore it will become evident whether the above mentioned agreement will be reached or the discussions with the European Parliament and the Commission will be proceeded by Lithuania during its Presidency.

“The very intensive trilogues of the recent weeks raise our hope that Ireland will put all the dots and approach the best overall compromise, acceptable for all EU member states, European Parliament and the Commission. We understand the importance to reach the common agreement as soon as possible thus our position on the open questions of the Common agricultural policy is indeed flexible“, - noted minister Vigilijus Jukna.

EU Council meeting in Luxembourg will focus on the questions of the Common agricultural policy reform like internal convergence and greening of direct payments, level of coupled support, reform on delimitation of areas with natural constraints, sugar quota regime, etc. The informal exchange of ideas at EU Council in Dublin showed a great interest from all parts to achieving agreement by the end of the Irish Presidency thus the upcoming 2 days meeting will be the final extremely important negotiations.

During each EU Council minister V. Jukna has a number of meetings with the colleagues of other EU member states. This tradition will be continued in Luxembourg as the bilateral discussions are foreseen with the colleagues from Italy, Netherlands, Finland, Hungary, Malta, Bulgaria, Romania as well with the president of the European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) Mr. Joris Baecke. “During these meetings we discuss the Lithuanian Presidency priorities and the main activities in agriculture, fisheries, veterinary, food safety and phytosanitary sectors, our bilateral cooperation and support for our presidency of the EU Council”, - minister V. Jukna noted the importance of such meetings.
