Iers Voorzitterschap stemt in met cruciaal onderdeel van hervorming visserijbeleid (en)

Irish Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney welcomes a significant step on the road to reform of EU Fisheries.

The Irish Presidency today concluded negotiations with the European Parliament on a significant element of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) reform package. Discussions on the Common Organisation of the Markets in Fishery and Aquaculture Products (known more widely as the CMO) saw agreement being reached on a system which will support the aims of the CFP, help make the industry more competitive and at the same time, simplify what has been a cumbersome system for industry and producer organisations. It also provides the consumers with better information through improved labelling of fishery and aquaculture products, including a more precise geographical indicator.

Welcoming today’s provisional agreement, Minister Coveney noted that “ Today’s agreement is a significant step towards the overall achievement of what I set out as my primary goal-a reformed fisheries policy which is sustainable on many levels- environmentally, economically and socially. Today’s outcome brings that much closer.”

The agreement will now go to the Committee of Permanent representatives for final approval.
