President Michael D. Higgins departs Dublin this evening for Strasbourg where he will deliver an address entitled ‘Towards a European Union of the Citizens’ to a plenary session of the European Parliament tomorrow morning.
President Michael D. Higgins departs Dublin this evening for Strasbourg where he will deliver an address entitled ‘Towards a European Union of the Citizens’ to a plenary session of the European Parliament tomorrow morning. The President has been invited to address the Parliament in the context of Ireland’s six month Presidency of the European Union.
Following his address the President will join Martin Schultz, President of the European Parliament, for a joint press conference with Irish and international media.
In the afternoon the President will meet with Irish Erasmus students, Irish members of the European Parliament and Irish officials working in the EU and Council of Europe institutions.
The President will conclude his day in Strasbourg with a guided tour of Strasbourg Cathedral.
The President will be accompanied by his wife, Sabina, and Minister of European Affairs Lucinda Creighton.
