22/03/2013 - The European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department ECHO and The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) have today strengthened the 2008 agreement on cooperation during emergencies. Both parties have signed a revised agreement - the so called Administrative Arrangement - which is expanding and deepening the cooperation in disaster management. To cope with new challenges such as an increasing number of disasters and their growing impact, the revised agreement is placing more emphasis on disaster prevention and preparedness.
In this context, the cooperation will be significantly enhanced in the areas of disaster risk reduction, risk assessment methods, risk and contingency scenario planning, training, education and public awareness.
