BRUSSELS, 7 February - The Irish Presidency represented the Council in two days of debate at this week’s European Parliament Plenary. Irish Ministers spoke at the opening and closing of eight separate debates on a wide range of issues.

Irish Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton represented the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 14 hours of debate at the European Parliament Plenary on 5-6 February. Minister Creighton spoke for more than an hour in total, on the European Semester, preparation for the European Council, dialogue for a peaceful solution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey, preparation for the Conference of Parties to CITES (trade in endangered species), the 22nd session of the UN Human Rights Council (on behalf of HR Ashton), the rule of law and freedom in Bulgaria, and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Irish Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and the Marine, Simon Coveney i, also represented the Council in a two hour debate on the Common Fisheries Policy
