Van Rompuy, Barroso en de Europese Commissie naar Dublin in eerste week van Iers voorzitterschap
The first full week of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union will see a series of high-level visits to Dublin by President Van Rompuy, President Barroso and the entire European Commission.
Meeting with Herman van Rompuy i, President of the European Council (9 January)
On January 9, the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste will meet with Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, to discuss cooperation between the Presidency and the Council in areas including the EU’s future financing and Banking Union proposals.
The meeting will be followed by a press conference in Dublin Castle at 13.45 (Irish time). Media accreditation required - it can be arranged online.
Meeting with the College of Commissioners (10 January)
The Government will meet with the European Commission in Dublin on 10 January to discuss Ireland’s EU Presidency programme and priorities.
A plenary meeting between the Cabinet and European Commissioners will focus on achieving the Irish Presidency’s objectives of promoting stability and a return to economic growth and job creation. It will be followed by a short tête-à-tête meeting between the Taoiseach and José Manuel Barroso i, President of the European Commission.
Ministers who are chairing Councils will also meet with their Commission counterparts in thematic meetings focussing on specific policy issues in areas including fighting youth unemployment, promoting social cohesion and stimulating economic growth and job creation through the Single Market and Digital Agenda.
These meetings will be followed by a press conference at 12.30 (Irish time) with the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and President Barroso. Media accreditation required - it can be arranged online.
