Statement by the spokesperson of High Representative Catherine Ashton i following the meeting with Foreign Minister of Montenegro

The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:

"High Representative Catherine Ashton met today in Brussels with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Montenegro, Igor Luksic. In the meeting, the High Representative reaffirmed the European perspective of Montenegro and the whole Western Balkans region. She congratulated DPM Luksic for the successful year 2012, in which the country opened accession negotiations. She encouraged the country to maintain the reform momentum.

The High Representative expressed appreciation for Montenegro's constructive role and engagement in the Western Balkan region.
