A publication of the German-speaking Community of Belgium presents the assessment of needs for "official" language certification in 5 minority regions of Europe

The German-speaking Community of Belgium presents the results of a three-year project (2009-2011) on language diversity and language certification.

The results include a handbook on methods and purpose of language certification and language surveys based on the experience of the German-speaking Community of Belgium as well as a compilation of available European and regional language certifications. The publication reflects on the usefulness of these instruments for minority languages and minority language groups.

Study visits to the five minority regions were used to assess the reality of the different language situations in relation to the potential need for language certification.

The publication is one of the results of the European project RML2future, a network for multilingualism and linguistic diversity in Europe, which was supported by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme.
