Eurocommissarissen presenteren strategieën voor innovatie gedreven groei (en)
Commissioner Johannes Hahn i has been presented with a report on the use of 'Smart Specialisation' strategies to design better public policies for boosting innovation-driven growth in EU regions through EU Cohesion Policy. The report, compiled by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD i), was also received by Commission Vice-President with responsibility for Industry and Entrepreneurship, Antonio Tajani i and Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn i.
The report examines the development of indicators and metrics for smart specialisation strategies and looks at 15 case studies of country and regional experience in designing and implementing such strategies.
"Smart specialisation" is a strategic approach to economic development through targeted support for research and innovation and was announced in the 'Innovation Union' flagship initiative of the Europe 2020 Strategy as the key action of Cohesion Policy in the field of innovation. The development of "research and innovation strategies for smart specialisation" was proposed as a pre-condition for countries and regions availing of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). The aim is to ensure more effective and efficient innovation policy strategies at national and regional level to maximise the impact of EU investment.
