Aan de orde in het EP: Merkel komt op bezoek en Erasmus en vliegveldwetgeving worden besproken (en)

German chancellor Angela Merkel i will visit Parliament on Wednesday while parliamentary committees will vote on reports about airport services and funding to help people who lost their jobs find new work. MEPs will also consider banking regulations and the place of the Erasmus student exchange programme in the 2014-2020 EU budget, while Martin Callanan, leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists group, will chat with our Facebook fans on Wednesday morning.

German chancellor Angela Merkel will meet EP president Martin Schulz i on Wednesday, followed by a discussion on the crisis with MEPs. The day after that Mr Schulz will visit Italy, meeting among others Italian president Giorgio Napolitano.

Committee work

The transport committee will vote on Tuesday on three pieces of airport legislation that deal with noise, ground handling and the allocation of slots with the aim of improving airports' efficiency and competitiveness.

Economic committee MEPs will discuss on Tuesday rules on how to deal with banks in financial trouble.

The employment and social affairs committee will on Tuesday vote on the future of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund that helps laid off workers find a new job and on the same day the education committee will discuss the future of the popular Erasmus programme in the period 2014-2020.

Also on Tuesday, the international trade committee will hold a hearing on investment opportunities between the EU and China and the civil liberties committee organises a hearing on media freedom in the EU.

Other events

The three films shortlisted for the 2012 Lux Prize will this week be screened in the European Parliament. The winner will be chosen by MEPs and be announced on 21 November.

EP Facebook fans will be able to chat with Martin Callanan, leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists group, on Wednesday and debate whether more or less EU is the answer to the crisis.
