Christofias: primaire doel van Cyprus is promoten van de Europese integratie (en)

Interparliamentary cooperation within the European Union has its own added value in the promotion of the political integration of Europe, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Demetris Christofias said today, in his address to the 48th Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC), in Nicosia.

In his address, read by Mr. Christos Christophides, Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, President Christofias gave assurances that “as Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU we support and encourage additional strengthening of this interparliamentary cooperation.”

He added that as Cypriot Presidency we remain “firmly committed to our goal, by continuing the hard work for the promotion of the common European interests.”

President Christofias stressed that in “assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU three months ago, Cyprus, from the outset, has set as its primary goal to work as an honest broker in the promotion of our common European priorities in close cooperation with the European Parliament.”

In concluding, he underlined that “the main issues on the agenda of the Cypriot Presidency are the negotiations for the new Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020, the completion of the Common European Asylum System and issues relating to Financial Governance.”
