Luxembourg’s central banker Yves Mersch will become a member of the European Central Bank's executive board despite the six top political parties in the European Parliament being against his appointment, Reuters reports quoting Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung. A hearing into Mersch's candidacy is due on 22 October.
