The European Court of Auditors i has an important role to play in supporting the vision “of a Better Europe” according to the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Andreas D. Mavroyiannis. The Deputy Minister was speaking at a presentation of the Cyprus Presidency’s objectives and priorities at the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg.

The comprehensive presentation highlighted the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, offered an overview of the progress achieved so far and an outlook on the challenges that lie ahead.

Ambassador Mavroyiannis also met the President of the European Court of Auditors, Mr. Vítor Caldeira and exchanged views on the current situation in the EU and the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, for achieving a better future for Europe.

“The European Court of Auditors has an important role to play in promoting the principles of sound financial management, which in turn supports the idea of a Better Europe, meaning a more efficient and effective Europe,” the Deputy Minister stressed.

As the EU’s external auditor, the European Court of Auditor assesses the collection and spending of EU funds and has a vital role to play in improving EU financial management and report on the use of EU funds.

The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Averof Neofytou, and Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, a Cypriot Member of the European Parliament also informed the European Court of Auditors of their institutions’ perspective of the Cyprus Presidency.
