The Cyprus EU Presidency will facilitate discussions regarding the involvement of the social partners, Non-Governmental Organisations and local authorities in the implementation of the “Europe 2020” Strategy on issues related to employment, poverty and social exclusion targets. The discussions will be held during an Informal meeting of the Ministers of Employment and Social Policy (EPSCO) at the “Filoxenia” Conference Centre, in Lefkosia (Nicosia) on July 12 and 13.

On the morning of July 12 and preceding the ministerial meeting, the Cyprus EU Presidency will hold discussions on these issues during a meeting of the Social Troika (Cyprus-Ireland- Lithuania) with the social platform and the social partners.

Following the conclusion of the morning meeting, the EU Ministers of Employment and Social Policy will participate in three parallel workshops on the role of social partners, NGOs and local authorities on boosting Europe’s employment, fighting poverty and social inclusion as well as strengthening their involvement throughout the European Semester.

'Europe 2020' Strategy

The success of the 'Europe 2020' Strategy is dependent on their involvement, both at a European level in the monitoring of the implementation of the Strategy and throughout the process of the European Semester, but also at national level, in the formulation and implementation of the National Reform Programmes.

The Cyprus EU Presidency believes that employment in Europe, and especially youth employment, must be restored and sustained. Employment is one of the three fundamental priorities of the Cyprus Presidency in the area of employment and social cohesion and on July 13, the second day of the meeting, the Cypriot Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Ms Sotiroula Charalambous, will invite the EPSCO Ministers to debate the Employment Package, focusing on promoting a job - rich recovery.
