The Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) reform will be the focal point of the first Agriculture and Fisheries Council, which will be held in Brussels on July 16. The ministers will give special attention to the draft Rural Development Regulation and the draft Regulation on the Common Organisation of the markets in agricultural products.

The first Agriculture and Fisheries Council during the Cyprus Presidency will take place in Brussels on July 16. The main issue to be discussed during the Council will be the CAP reform and ministers will emphasize on the draft Regulations on Rural Development and on the Common Organisation of the markets in agricultural products.

The orientation debate will be structured on the basis of the Presidency questionnaires which focus on the risk management measures under rural development and the exceptional measures under the common organisation of the markets. Moreover, the European Commission will present a Report on the situation of the dairy market.

With regard to issues concerning Fisheries, the basic topic to be discussed during the Council will be the Communication of the European Commission concerning consultation on Fishing Opportunities. The European Commission is expected to present its proposals regarding the working method for proposing the Total Allowable Catches (TAC). A debate on the subject will follow.
