Europese Commissie bezoekt Cyprus (en)

The President of the European Commission, Mr. José Manuel Barroso i, along with the College of Commissioners will visit Cyprus on Friday, July 6, to hold several meetings with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Christofias and his Cabinet. The meetings will focus on the exchange of views concerning the main priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The official visit constitutes one of the most important meetings that will take place in Cyprus during the Cyprus Presidency.

President Christofias will welcome President Barroso at the Presidential Palace at 10:30 where they will discuss the important issues that will be addressed during the Cyprus Presidency. In parallel, the Cypriot Ministers will have bilateral meetings with the Commissioners at the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Lefkosia (Nicosia). Discussions will focus on the priorities of each policy area during the Cyprus Presidency.

A plenary meeting, chaired by President Christofias, will follow at 12:00 in which the Cyprus Cabinet and the College of Commissioners will take part. During the plenary meeting, the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency will be presented, while Commissioners and Cypriot Ministers will elaborate on certain issues, with special emphasis on fostering growth.

At the end of the plenary meeting, President Christofias and Mr. Barroso will hold a joint press conference at 13:30, while a lunch will follow at the Presidential Palace at 14:00.
