Verklaring president Christofias na ontmoeting directeur Amnesty International (en)

Statement of President Christofias i following the meeting with the Director of Amnesty International Mr. Nicolas Beger

"I had the opportunity today to meet the Director of Amnesty International’s EU office, Nicolas J. Beger. I would like to thank Mr. Beger and his collaborators for this constructive meeting. I thank them especially for the recommendations handed over to me with regard to the organization's positions concerning Human Rights dossiers that will be dealt with in the Council during the current six-month period under the Cyprus Presidency.

I have assured Mr. Beger that the Cyprus Presidency of the Council will take full note of these recommendations. The Council and the EU in general is a union of countries based on the respect and protection of human rights. We are working methodically both within the Union and with regard to our relations with third countries for the effective implementation of fundamental human rights. Non-Governmental Organizations such as the Amnesty International, contribute significantly towards the realization of our common goals".
