Lancering EU-China Risicomanagement bij Rampen Project (en)
15/06/2012 - A new EU-China project enhancing cooperation in disaster management between China and the European Union is being launched today in Beijing by the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva i.
The project will assist China in strengthening the national system of disaster risk management and help to enhance EU-China dialogue and cooperation in this area. It will help decision makers and administrations in China to deal with the challenges of disaster preparedness, disaster risk reduction and post-disaster management. Both parties will benefit from exchanges on how capacity to prepare for and react to disasters can be improved through innovations in science and technology.
In November 2010 the EU and the Government of China signed a 6 million EUR Agreement to establish the "EU-China Disaster Risk Management" project. EU funding for this project come from the Development Co-operation Instrument (DCI). China is providing 3 million EUR of in-kind support to the project that will be implemented by a European consortium selected after a call for direct grant proposals. The project is being closely supervised by the EU Delegation in Beijing.
