Schulz feliciteert nieuwe president Senegal (en)

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i made the following statement on the Presidential elections in Senegal:

"I congratulate President-elect Macky Sall on his victory in the Presidential elections in Senegal.

After the tense election season, I particularly welcome the ongoing smooth and peaceful transition of power in Senegal and call on all parties to continue showing restraint.

I congratulate the Senegalese people, electoral authorities, party representatives and observers, civil society and media for the proper conduct of the polls.

Senegal is a key partner for the European Union and is one of the most stable countries in the region. Senegal's democratic tradition has been reinforced by the elections and by the process of smooth transition of Presidential powers."
