Commissaris Barnier maakt zich sterk voor intellectueel eigendom (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Europese Commissie (EC) i, gepubliceerd op donderdag 22 maart 2012.

"I am very pleased that, today, the Council has adopted an EU i Regulation entrusting the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) with new tasks. This marks an important step that should allow us to develop a better understanding of the impact of intellectual property right (IPR) infringements on the EU economy. The new tasks entrusted to OHIM include bringing together public and private sector representatives in a European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, improving data collection, raising public awareness and generally supporting the fight against infringements of intellectual property rights."

"I congratulate the Council and the Parliament Rapporteur i, Antonio Masip Hidalgo, for the balanced compromise they achieved. This agreement allows the Observatory in Alicante to quickly become operational," he added.

"Because of its long experience in the intellectual property field, the OHIM is very well placed to be involved in the important work of developing the European Observatory on IPR infringements", concluded Commissioner Barnier i.
