Britse studenten maken film voor Europees jaar van de solidariteit (en)
Students from University Centre Peterborough and Peterborough Regional College (UK) have worked together to contribute a short documentary film for the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012.
Jessamy Hudson (21), a third-year Journalism student at University Centre Peterborough (UCP), and Aaron Leverton-Ferrar (19), a Media Production student at Peterborough Regional College, scripted, filmed, edited and produced the film.
The students filmed on location around the UK, featuring active ageing initiatives in Peterborough such as the Vivacity’s Young at Heart project, where they are trying to get older people moving, and a tea-dance at the Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey.
Another initiative documented in the film is the Brighton & Hove Older People’s Council, which is campaigning to make all local authorities in the UK to have a council representing the needs of elders.
“I live with my grandparents, who are both active agers, so it's been a very interesting project for me personally. It's great to represent the university and have the opportunity to contribute at a UK-level to such an important European campaign”, says Leverton-Ferrar.
Hudson says he “really enjoyed meeting such inspiring people, so it was extremely hard to edit down huge amounts of interesting footage to just 11 minutes of film.”
The documentary was shown at the “Get Involved!” launch event in London on March 6th to key stakeholders, charities and policy makers.
