Voorzitter EP spreekt Grieks parlement toe (en)

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i will address the Hellenic Parliament on Tuesday 28 February at 19.00 (Greek time (CET +1). The intervention will be followed by a debate with Greek Members of Parliament. President Schulz is the first non-Greek politician to address the Hellenic Parliament in recent months.

EP President Martin Schulz will also hold meetings on 28 February with the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias, the Prime Minister of Greece Lucas Papademos i and the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Filippos Petsalnikos. All meetings will be followed by a press point. President Schulz will also hold meetings with George Papandreou i the leader of the PASOK party and Antonis Samaras the leader of the New Democracy party.

Ahead of the visit, EP President Martin Schulz said:

"As President of the European Parliament, I want to express our solidarity with the Greek people who are living through very hard times. Aid to Greece is in Greece's interest and the wider European interest. The latest financial package agreed, once implemented, will give Greece a chance to start its economic recovery."
