Europese culturele hoofdstad 2012 Guimaraes viert (en)

The northern Portuguese town of Guimaraes on Saturday celebrated its new status of 2012 EU Capital of Culture, one it shares with Maribor, Slovenia. Among the spectators was European Commission President Jose-Manuel Barroso i, a Portuguese national. "Without culture, Europe has no direction," he said.
