The struggle against match-fixing, sports volunteering and cooperation with the WADA were discussed by the Council chaired by Minister Joanna Mucha.

On 29th November, the EU Council on Education, Youth, Culture and Sport adopted three documents prepared during Poland’s EU Council Presidency. They pertain to combating match fixing in sporting competitions, sport volunteers and the question of representing and coordinating the EU’s position ahead of sessions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Earlier, over a several-month period, a working party of the EU Council had worked to prepare the wording of the agreement. Its final meeting took place on 11th November. After the documents had been accepted by the Committee of Permanent Representatives on 15th November, they were put in front of the Council on 29th November.

In addition to approving them, participants of the Council session debated the problems of good sport governance. At the meeting the ‘Erasmus i for Everyone’ programme was presented by the European Commission. In its present form, it also encompasses the field of sport.

The Council session was conducted by Sport and Tourism Minister Joanna Mucha. Earlier, she met with representatives of the sporting community at an informal lunch for structural dialogue. There too the question of good sporting governance was raised. Both the sporting community as well as government and EU representatives stressed the importance of good governance in sport and the need for cooperation in that area.
